Flooring:

  • Floor tiles: cement. An important note about cement tile flooring: We’ve used patterned cement tiles in our Powder Room, Master Bathroom, and Laundry Room. These tiles require a lot of care before and after installation to keep them looking good. I’m not a tile expert but I did a ton of research and understood to the best of my ability the level of maintenance they needed from the start, but we also intentionally chose places to use them that did not get direct water and wouldn’t get too dirty. It is incredibly important that this type of tile be properly sealed because once they stain, it’s almost impossible to get it out since the material is porous. I sealed all our tiles individually by hand (with this sealer: Home Depot | Amazon) twice each before they were installed so that as they were handled in installation they wouldn’t stain. Then I re-sealed them again twice after installation. Then, every 6-8 months, I clean them extra well (with clear soap and water) and re-seal them once. It’s possible this is overboard BUT we intend this to be our forever home so any issues these tiles have many years from now will be ours to deal with so I’d rather play it extra safe and keep them protected. We’ve had a great experience with the sealer we use on our tiles, but always be sure to test any sealer you use on a spare tile or somewhere hidden before you apply it everywhere.

    • If you google “cement tile” you’ll find lots of sources for this type of tile. I also recommend doing research on the upkeep of this type of tile as it requires maintenance over time to prevent staining.

    • Our vanity is custom made to fit our space – I don’t remember the exact dimensions offhand since it’s non-standard so I’d have to remeasure but our sinks and hardware are linked to the sizes we used as a reference point.

  4. I love your master bathroom! I am wondering about the front of the shower. Is the only full glass (top to bottom) your shower door; with the knee walls on either side in white shiplap?
    I also have a tuxedo kitty . . . adorable! Your kitties make me smile over and over. Thank you.

    • No. We designed our house from scratch together so our plan is fully custom. We put a lot of ourselves into our house design and as such, we are not releasing or sharing our plan at this time. Also for privacy, we do not share our whole home online. Thank you for understanding.

  6. Hi! Been a huge fan of your IG page since you started. Now that we are starting to decorate our new house, I wanted to ask you about your mirrors and how they’ve been holding up since you put them up. What do you think about the rubber edge? Does it turn lighter over time? Do you know if we have to use tempered/laminated glass for the bathroom mirrors or can we go with these. We haven’t done remodeling before so we have tons of questions! Thanks in advance =D

    • Hi! Ours have not changed at all over time. And to my knowledge there’s no reason these can’t be used in bathrooms, but you should always check your building code if you have any particular requirements. 🙂

  7. Can you share what clear soap you use to clean your cement tile floors?! I did see that cement tile shop advises a ph neutral one and I am just trying to figure out what works best before and after sealing!

    • I just used a bit of our dish soap honestly. Once they’re sealed it’s less of an issue to worry about the soap – I just use it so that they’re very clean when I put the new coat of sealer on them.
